SHORT CITY GUIDE
Konya: Mevlâna, Seljuk heritage and nearby excursions
Look beyond the monuments around Mevlâna. Market stalls, streets of traditional houses and smaller collections enrich a day in the centre; Meram and Gökyurt are separate discovery areas.
Plan by area
For a short stay, choose the Mevlâna–Aziziye area as a main district. The Science Centre, Kyoto Park and Kilistra are not part of one short central walk; choose according to pace and transport.
Places to explore
How long are you staying?
Arrange the stops around your interests and pace. Places in the same area are grouped; transport times and opening schedules are not calculated.
From market to residential street
Focus on local ingredients at Kadınlar Pazarı, then domestic architecture and food culture on Mengüç. Everyday Konya offers a different focus from another major monument.
Collection or city narrative?
Koyunoğlu focuses on local collections; Panorama on a visual city narrative. For a short plan, choosing one can be more useful than adding both.
A separate day for the rock-cut settlement
Kilistra at Gökyurt is not a small stop to fill a gap in a central itinerary. Set aside a separate excursion for its rural landscape and rock-cut architecture.
Begin around Mevlâna
Focus on the museum and its surroundings, checking institutional visiting rules.
Art and history around Alâeddin
Choose among the hill, historic buildings and museums according to your interests.
Mevlâna / Aziziye
Mevlâna Müzesi
Explore Mevlevi culture through the lodge and its collections.
Aziziye Camisi
Notice this mosque’s distinctive architectural details on a central visit.
Melike Hatun Çarşısı (Kadınlar Pazarı)
Explore the ingredients of everyday Konya cooking through cheese stalls and regional produce, rather than treating the market only as a shopping stop.
Visit notes
A way to understand local cooking through its ingredients before choosing a restaurant.
Fits a food-focused day in the centre; check which stalls are trading on your visit.
Draft visit duration: 40 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Tarihî Mengüç Sokak
Add this street of traditional Konya houses as a neighbourhood and food break during a visit to the Mevlâna district.
Visit notes
Links the monumental centre with domestic architecture and a living food culture.
The street itself is an outdoor stop; the plan does not guarantee a particular restaurant service or menu.
Draft visit duration: 40 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Panorama Konya Müzesi
See an interpretation of Seljuk Konya through a panoramic display and miniature Mevlevi lodges.
Visit notes
Provides a visual interpretation of city and period rather than a collection of original historic objects.
An optional addition to the Mevlâna area; there is no need to visit every interpretive museum on the same day.
Draft visit duration: 60 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.

Take a quiet outdoor break around ponds, bridges and a Japanese garden layout shaped by the Konya–Kyoto sister-city relationship.

Draft visit duration: 60 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Meram / Dere
Tarihî Meram Köprüsü ve Dere çevresi
Start at the stone bridge over the Meram stream and explore its surroundings, reading the structure as part of the district’s relationship with water.
Visit notes
Shows a recreational side of Konya beyond its squares and museums.
Treat this as a separate district; do not assume nearby businesses are open or neighbouring restoration work is complete.
Draft visit duration: 60 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Meram / Ateşbaz Veli
Ateşbaz Veli Türbesi
Look at the octagonal stone body and brick roof of this Seljuk shrine, and the place of Ateşbaz Veli in the Mevlevi kitchen tradition.

Explore traces of rock-cut dwellings, chapels and workshops around Gökyurt, looking at how settlement adapted to the rock formations.
