SHORT CITY GUIDE
Trabzon: city heritage, the coast and separate nature trips
Look beyond the coast and upland views: trading hans, press history and timber mansions reveal other layers of Trabzon. Hamsiköy and Sürmene are separate outings, not extensions of a central walk.
Plan by area
Build a focused day around Ortahisar and the bazaar. Do not compress Sürmene to the east, Hamsiköy to the south and the Çaykara direction into one day; assess weather and roads separately.
Places to explore
How long are you staying?
Arrange the stops around your interests and pace. Places in the same area are grouped; transport times and opening schedules are not calculated.
Architecture within the bazaar
Alacahan, the Bedesten and Çarşı Mosque reveal different buildings shaped by trade and craft. Choose a few and leave time for detail.
The city in print
The History Museum and Press History Museum are separate places. Choose one or both for documentary history, balanced with a Zağnos Valley break.
Historic character in Ortahisar
Make a short selection of city stops around the citadel.
A separate day for nature
Do not treat Uzungöl, Sera Lake and Sümela as a single short walk; plan transport separately.
Historic Ortahisar
Trabzon Kalesi ve sur çevresi
Trace the relationship between the historic settlement and its walls.
Kanuni Evi
Add a cultural stop focused on Süleyman to an Ortahisar visit.
Gülbahar Hatun Camisi

Trabzon Tarih Müzesi
A former house on Sarayatik Sokak introduces the city through photographs, documents and local collections, connecting commerce, sport and the press.
Visit notes
Looks beyond the walls to Ortahisar’s urban memory.
This is separate from the City Museum and Kostaki Mansion; check the address for this smaller museum.
Draft visit duration: 60 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Zağnos Vadisi Parkı
The valley beside the Ortahisar walls adds an outdoor interval to the historic centre. It balances museum and monument visits with a park stop.
Visit notes
Softens the rhythm of an Ortahisar sightseeing day.
Check age, fee and operating conditions for individual play and adventure facilities.
Draft visit duration: 60 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.

Düzköy / Çal
Çal Mağarası
Check current visiting information for a cave excursion towards Düzköy.
Akçaabat / Yıldızlı
Sera Gölü
Treat the lake area in Yıldızlı as a separate outdoor excursion.
Akçaabat Ortamahalle
Akçaabat Ortamahalle
Plan a separate neighbourhood visit in Akçaabat for its traditional houses.
Çarşı quarter / Kemeraltı
Alacahan
The courtyard han is now associated with craft education. Its stone fabric and courtyard layout add architecture and making to a visit through the trading quarter.
Visit notes
A way to connect local crafts with the building that houses them.
It also serves courses and offices; ask which exhibitions and areas can be visited.
Draft visit duration: 45 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Trabzon Bedesteni
The historic bazaar’s covered trading building offers local-product shops and a distinct interior. The building itself is as much a reason to visit as shopping.
Visit notes
Fits a focused exploration of the mosque-and-han trading quarter.
Shop and interior access can vary; it is not an unconditional rainy-day opening guarantee.
Draft visit duration: 45 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Çarşı Camii
Shops sit below this mosque on the sloping bazaar site, while its stone façades carry ornamental detail. It reveals how a religious building meets the trading fabric.
Visit notes
Rewards looking at the relationship between architecture and the street.
Respect worship; use the exterior as the visit if interior entry is inappropriate.
Draft visit duration: 30 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Çiftehamam / press museum
Trabzon Basın Tarihi Müzesi
Local newspaper and printing history becomes an exhibition supported by digital archives. It approaches civic and everyday life through print rather than monuments.
Visit notes
A niche intersection of newspapers, design and local history.
Use the Çiftehamam Sokak address; do not confuse it with the History Museum.
Draft visit duration: 45 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Sürmene / Balıklı
Memişağa Konağı
The Balıklı mansion highlights Eastern Black Sea domestic architecture through deep eaves and stone-and-timber workmanship. Doors and ceilings reward a detail-led visit.
Visit notes
A close look at regional domestic architecture.
Keep it for a Sürmene day and confirm which interiors can be visited.
Draft visit duration: 60 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Maçka / Hamsiköy
Hamsiköy
Settlements on Zigana’s northern slopes combine valley views with dairy and rice-pudding traditions. Treat this as a separate rural outing, not a quick city-centre café stop.
Visit notes
Combines a slower landscape day with local food culture.
Check fog, rain and road conditions; neither clear views nor a particular business opening is guaranteed.
Draft visit duration: 120 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
Sürmene / Çamburnu
Sürmene Çamburnu Tabiat Parkı
Pines reach the coast in this park, bringing woodland and sea into one outdoor stop. It belongs to a Sürmene coastal outing rather than the city-centre circuit.
Visit notes
A coastal experience without assuming a beach day.
Choose a short section to suit weather and wet surfaces; swimming safety is not assumed.
Draft visit duration: 90 min. An editorial estimate, excluding transfers and queues.
